AUSTRALIAN OPEN – 2nd Round summary. 84.375%

In second round of AO most seeded players advanced to 3rd round (R32). Still there are 23 (out of 32) seeded players left in the field. Unfortunately, Shapovalov (#21) and Tsitsipas (#31) were eliminated. Based on our ELO ratings in 2rd. higher rated players according to our TenELOs ratings won 27 out of 32 matches. That’s 84.375% accuracy for 2nd round. Results are getting more reliable once players form and playing level is established.

We were wrong on following matches:

Darderi Luciano (22) v Baez Sebastian. Prediction: 4-6 2-6. Baez won only 1 set. Darderi in the last 10 matches before AUSTRALIAN OPEN was hardly impressive, won only 3 and lost 7 matches. Baez in contrast had in January - 7 win in a row! Score: 6-3 1-6 6-4 6-3 for Darderi.

Machac Tomas beat Tsitsipas Stefanos (31). Prediction: 3-6 6-4 (1 set each). We were almost Perfect on this prediction. Unfortunately, Tsitsipas was slightly favourite in this encounter and he lost 2 tiebreaks. Score: 6-4 3-6 7-6(5) 7-6(5).

Cilic Marin beat Shapovalov Denis (21). Prediction: 2-6 6-4 (1 set each). Cilic (former US OPEN Champion) still showing that he could beat strong players despite his age. He is 37. Score: 6-4 6-3 6-2.

Spizzirri Eliot beat Wu Yibing (Q). Prediction: 4-6 6-7. After upsetting Fonseca in previous round Spizzirri continues his best form run, reaching first time 3rd round at any GRAND SLAM. Previously in GS he advanced only once to second round at last US OPEN.

Quinn Ethan beat Hurkacz Hubert. Prediction: 4-6 3-6. Another superb (3:0) performance by Quinn. This time he beat Hurkacz. Hurkacz is only ATP#53 , but his good showing at UNITED CUP this month where he beat ZVEREV will help him soon to bust his ratings. Perhaps Hurkacz is not confident yet playing gruelling 5 sets matches after 7-month injury break. Score: 6-4 7-6(5) 6-1.
